Briefing Note
I regularly prepare news articles for the MSL website through research and conducting interviews. These cover a range of topics in varied formats, including highlights of innovative research, Q&As with researchers, and celebrations of awards received by our members.

I also frequently capture photos of the research and people to accompany the articles.
As an assignment for one of my Master's degree courses, I was tasked with writing an article in the inverted pyramid style based on a research publication from the university.
As an assignment in my Master's degree, I was asked to prepare a briefing note on the subject of e-cigarettes and vaping among Canadian youth. I wrote my briefing note with the purpose being 'for action'. Specifically, I recommended a path forward for reducing youth vaping rates through an amendment to the 2018 Tobacco and Vaping Products Act, addressing the assignment to the Minister of Health (Jean-Yves Duclos) and the Deputy Minister of Health (Carolyn Bennett).
Popular Essay
In my undergraduate degree, I was asked to write a popular essay in the style required by The Conversation's online platform, writing it at a reading level appropriate for high school students. The essay was based on a peer-reviewed article about seal behaviour.
Volunteer Newsletter
While at Volunteer Sudbury, I contributed to the quarterly newsletter release, including its design, writing, and distribution. I contributed to all three updates provided in this newsletter edition.
Public Health Research
A research assignment prepared for one of my undergraduate courses, I found background information on cigarette smoking prevention programs in Northern Ontario, and provided recommendations for future action.
Audiovisual
Instagram Reels (MSL)
Explainer Video
Storytelling Video
As part of strategic planning for the social media accounts I manage at the Michael Smith Laboratories, I produce video content shared through our Instagram as reels. A sample is linked below, and more can be found through the account @mslubc.
For a course in my Master's focused on audiovisual projects, I chose a topic to script, film, and edit an explainer video on. I chose to focus on enzymes, and pretended the video was part of an ongoing educational series.
An assignment for the same course as the explainer video, I had to plan, film, and edit together a video that showed a simple action from start to finish. I filmed myself making toast for breakfast.
Design
Science Animation
Infographic
Volunteer Postcard
In promoting new research from one of our labs at the Michael Smith Laboratories, our media relations team asked me to produce a short animation to explain the science behind the lab's latest paper. My animation was featured in a Global News TV segment on the findings, linked below (starts at 1:07).
Created during my Master's as an assignment, I designed this infographic using Canva on the subject of microbe use in mine waste management.

*Content pulled from a Laurentian course on environmental remediation
After being given the written content while at Volunteer Sudbury, I designed this postcard to provide information to newcomers to the city who were looking to volunteer.

SCOM Takeover
Volunteer Sudbury
As part of my role at the MSL, I manage the social media accounts for the department.
The final assignment for my Master's course focused on social media required myself and my classmates taking over the Laurentian Science Communication social media channels to advertise our Northern MedTalks event.
Much of my work as the Marketing Coordinator and Office Assistant at Volunteer Sudbury included creating and scheduling posts on their social media feeds.

Research: PCST
Managing Type 2 Diabetes Medications
A cumulative project for the Master's program, I was paired with a healthcare provider in Sudbury to prepare a 10-minute talk he delivered at a TED Talk like event in April 2023.
As a Graduate Research Assistant, I had the opportunity to work closely with my supervisors and colleague to prepare and deliver a presentation on our science communication research at the 2023 PCST conference in Rotterdam.
As an assignment in my Master's, I had to take a presentation I had given previously and revise it using what I had learned about presentation best practices.
